Meet the sisters!
The Missionary Sisters of the Immaculate Conception (M.I.C.) are a pioneering women's religious congregation founded in Montreal, Quebec, in 1902 by Venerable Délia Tétreault as the first indigenous missionary institute in North America.
Founding Legacy: Established out of a deep devotion to foreign missions and Marian spirituality, the M.I.C. sisters have dedicated over a century to education, healthcare, social work, and pastoral care across the world.
Transition to Villa Opale: In 2025, members of the congregation transitioned from their historic convent at Pontviau in Laval to Villa Opale in Lachine, Montreal, entering a shared retirement and residential chapter alongside the Society for the Foreign Missions (SME).
Ongoing Mission and Prayer: While many of the sisters are in their senior years, several remain actively engaged in community life, and all maintain a vibrant spiritual commitment—lifting up prayers for the missions, the universal church and for the world.
Sr. Lucille Baril, one of them in her 90s took time to write a brief history of each one of her companions in the Villa. What a great love she has shown so that we encounter our Sisters at another level. This background is important for our younger members of the Institute who may not have known our Sisters physically in the missions.
As we look forward to 125 years of our foundation in June 2027, we take time to see how beautiful the dream of our dear Foundress has come true! “ See how they love one another…” May we continue to live in joy and in gratitude to God and to our Immaculate Mother!
Many thanks to Sr. Lucille for this inspiring initiative!
