A childhood dream that crossed borders

Faithful to her childhood dream, Délia Tétreault founded the first missionary institute in the Americas in 1902 in Montreal, Quebec. For Délia, the time had come for Christian people to share their faith far beyond their own borders.

​

What began as an apostolic school—a training center for young women discerning a missionary calling—transformed over time into our congregation today. Nowadays, the Institute of the Missionary Sisters of the Immaculate Conception (MIC) is a deeply international and intercultural community, united by that same original mission.

Vocation and Spirituality: Women of grateful hearts

​

Within the universal Church, we actively participate in the mission of evangelization. Following Mary's example and as women of the Good News, we seek to reveal Jesus Christ to our brothers and sisters around the world, always living in a profound spirit of thanksgiving and joy.

​

Today, her daughters continue to respond with zeal to the realities and concerns of women wherever the Mission guides their steps. We walk alongside them, helping them stand tall and fully live out their vocation as children of God. Through small, daily acts of love, availability, and dedication, we strive to make the true face of God visible in a world constantly searching for meaning.

Ordinary Women, Extraordinary Love

The Institute of the Missionary Sisters of the Immaculate Conception is made up of ordinary women of various nationalities who have recognized God's extraordinary love in their lives. Answering the call to consecrate our lives to continue the mission of Jesus Christ in today's world, we find our place among the humble, the poor, the dispossessed, and the voiceless—giving everyone a true chance at life.

Our Presence in the World

The Institute is truly international: our sisters come from 17 different nationalities. Currently, we share our life and mission in:

• Canada (Cradle of the Foundation): Quebec and Ontario.

• Asia: China, Hong Kong SAR, Japan, Taiwan, and the Philippines.

• Africa: Malawi, Zambia, and Madagascar Island.

• South and Central America: Peru, Bolivia, Cuba, and Haiti.

Our Mission in Action: Hearts Open to Every Need

​

Our missionary life as M.I.C. Sisters covers a wide variety of ministries, lived out in the most diverse environments and very often in community teams. What we do depends entirely on the urgent calls and real needs of the people we serve.

​

We walk alongside the vulnerable as a leaven of hope, offering our service in areas such as:

• Social & Humanitarian Work: Supporting refugees, immigrants, and prisoners, as well as providing care for children, persons with disabilities, and individuals affected by HIV/AIDS.

​

• Education & Literacy: Teaching in schools, adult literacy classes, universities, and working with low-income groups or digital media to spread the Gospel.

​​

• Local Church Cooperation: Collaborating closely with local dioceses in every country to awaken and strengthen the missionary responsibility within Christian communities.
